Volunteer Guidelines

In Paul’s letter to the Galatians he spoke to them about Christian service. He said, “…by love, serve one another.” What a wonderful opportunity we have to serve the children here at BCA. The old African saying stating, “It takes a whole village to raise a child,” is true about education as well.

We are truly thankful to God that you have chosen to be a part of our Volunteer team at BCA. We cannot possibly function without volunteers. There are several opportunities for service within our Parent Teacher Fellowship committees and activities.

Please remember that we are here with one purpose, one goal; it is to serve one another and our Lord Jesus Christ. I Corinthians 3:8-9 says, “Now he who plants and he who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his labor. For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.” In fulfilling this one purpose, we need to express expectations. Some are as follows:

Campus Privileges – We ask that you park in the Bridgeway Education Building parking area. Always use the carpool line to drop off your children before you park. This will eliminate children walking through a moving line of traffic. When you enter the school building, you need to report to the Welcome Center, sign in and receive a Guest pass. Please wear it while you are on campus and return it to the Welcome Center when you sign out. While you are volunteering on campus, please respect your child’s teacher and not visit your child’s class without making an appointment in advance. This would be an interruption to the class. If, however, you are volunteering in your child’s classroom, you must respect the teacher’s leadership and authority in the class.

Chain of Command – As a volunteer you will be under the guidance of a staff member. Please communicate with that staff member any questions or concerns you may have. Safety of the children is the responsibility of everyone working with the children. Discipline of the children is the staff member’s responsibility. As a volunteer you may be under the guidance of a PTF Committee Chair. During your committee meeting, you will not have contact with the students or teachers.

Commitment - When you are contracted to volunteer for a specific activity, please make your commitment prayerfully and carefully.  If you will be with a teacher, please let them know specifically what time you will be available. Please understand we cannot accommodate siblings during your visit to BCA classrooms. As a parent, your time and attention would naturally be divided between your volunteering and parenting.

Dress Code – As a Christian school, we desire our families and overall ministry to reflect “Christ-likeness”. We ask that parents model a good example for our students by dressing with modesty, neatness and discretion when on campus or at a school function.

Crisis – As a volunteer we ask that you remain with class activity and let the staff member handle the emergency. However, if you are directed by the staff member to secure help, please use the following information.
